The door slammed in her face as she stood out in the cold, rainy night trying not to tear up. She wish she would have said something different. Done something different so he would not have broken up with her and made her go out alone. She was on her own now to fend for herself and try to make a life for herself. She still had a job and her family to help her but they were scattered all over the United States and makes it hard for her to see them in person. She knew one day that her boyfriend could not handle living with her anymore and she would have to stand up and make a life for herself.
Katie, who just recently turned 21, a blonde, and one of the nicest human beings in the world. Was standing on the stoop of her boyfriend's house wondering what life had in store for her next. Her next step was to get into her car with her stuff to find a motel to keep her for a while until she could find a friend with whom to live or an apartment. She got into her just got into her car before the rain storm unleashed a downpour from the clouds above. She sighed loudly and wiped the remnants of tears from the corners of her eyes and started her white Pontiac Grand Prix. The engine choked up for a moment but then started running. Taking another sigh of relief Katie drove into town to the local hotel and got a room for the night. She knew that the expense of the new few days would not help her out in the long run, but it was necessary for her situation. When Katie got all her things into the hotel room she was exhausted and feel asleep before she could remove her clothes.
Twelve hours later, Katie awoke somewhat refreshed but did not have pleasant dreams. She made herself some coffee and went to her car to go look for a more permanent residence. Katie was a Junior in college studying to be a high school history teacher. Katie really enjoyed learning about the people who ran the country in which she currently lived. She also enjoyed watching movies that represented our history, even if the videos are not the best to describe the situations. She wanted to be able to teach students about history and to have a fun learning environment overall. She is a blonde with very long hair that has not been cut for some time. She grew up in a family as the second youngest of four children from a very Christian household. No one really paid attention to Katie but she had a roof over her head and food on the table every night. She never understood church and when people talked about God, but she went to church to not have to argue with her parents. Although now that her parents had kicked her out she did not go to church anymore. She was on her own and happy (as she could be after being kicked out by her boyfriend).
Katie had one younger brother and two older sisters. The brother was still in the same high school Katie and all of her siblings attended and lived with her parents. Katie's family thrived off of living on a farm on the outskirts of a small town where everyone knew everybody. Katie's parents are very involved in the town and building a community with everyone. Katie was very popular growing up with the town but only seemed to have a few friends growing up. Her closest friend is a currently English Major at Maine University hoping and praying to get an internship with Stephen King and to one day become a major author. Katie was very happy for her, but during times like this she missed her very much. She knew Anna would take her in as a roommate in a heart beat. But Katie was out looking for her own way.
As Katie was driving through town the images of last night kept coming back to her mind and how sad she really was. She had to end up pulling over to stop herself from spacing out from driving. And sat in her car and cried. A while later she was able to compose herself and continue driving. Her first stop was at her co-worker's house to see if he would take her in. He was a lonely bachelor with no family and had a hard time keeping an honest roommate.
Katie stumbled up the steps to his apartment and knocked. When he answered she broke down completely on his chest. Dan looked at her for moment, not knowing what to do and hugged her before leading her to come sit down and stop crying.
"What happened Katie?," Dan asked going to get some kleenexes. When he came back Katie had stopped crying and grabbed a handful of tissues to fix her face. When she finished. She told about how her boyfriend had dumped her being to faithful to her job and school. She had been pushed onto the streets last night and was now in a hotel room hoping and praying to find a cheap place to live. Dan looked at her for a long time and knew that Katie was really crushed. Her boyfriend, Justin, had been a really great guy for her. But he had some troubles of growing up of his own, even though he was around 30 years old. Dan hugged her again and held her, petting her hair to try and help her calm down more. She snuggled into him and enjoyed the comfort.
"So Katie why did you come here?" Dan asked after her breathing has evened out.
"I knew you have been complaining about not being able to find a good roommate and was wondering if you would take me in?" Katie said twiddling her thumbs. Dan was quiet for a long, long time. Katie wondered if she mumbled and if he had heard her. Finally Dan spoke but with slight hesitation.
"Katie, you're a great girl and you would make a wonderful roommate. I accept," he said hugging her. Katie just about jumped for joy.
"When can I move in," she asked sounding excited. As soon as we figure out logistics and such to you living you. You have to go fill out an application with my landlord and such. So it may take a while," Dan said. Katie was so overjoyed she almost kissed him but knew that would not end well so she just hugged him enjoying the feeling her arms felt around him.
Katie and Dan sat and talked for a long time, even continued the conversation through lunch and dinners and it finally ended with a good night kiss outside Katie's hotel room.
